Inscript: the standard Hindi keyboard for CPCT

Inscript is the Government of India standard Devanagari layout and one of the two layouts allowed in the CPCT Hindi typing test. Vowel signs sit on the left hand and consonants on the right, and every character is typed in logical Unicode order — no pre-typed ि as on a typewriter.

Who should choose Inscript?

  • Beginners who have never used a Hindi typewriter
  • Anyone who already types Hindi on a phone or Windows Hindi keyboard
  • Candidates who want one layout that works on every modern computer

CPCT Hindi requirements

  • 15 minutes, minimum 20 NWPM
  • NWPM counts only words that exactly match the passage
  • Backspace allowed

Frequently Asked Questions

Is Inscript allowed in CPCT?

Yes. CPCT Hindi can be typed with either Inscript or Remington (GAIL), both in Unicode.

Inscript or Remington GAIL — which is better for CPCT?

Both are scored the same way. Choose Remington GAIL if you learnt on a typewriter or Kruti Dev; otherwise Inscript is easier to learn.
