CPCT English Typing Test — Target 30 NWPM
Free MP CPCT English typing test: 15-minute passages scored with the official NWPM formula. You need 30 NWPM — see how correct words are counted.
How the CPCT English typing test is scored
You type a passage for 15 minutes. CPCT splits what you typed into words at every space and counts the words that exactly match the passage. Your speed is NWPM = correct words ÷ minutes. There is no per-mistake penalty and no separate accuracy cut-off.
Targets
- Qualifying: 30 NWPM (50% scaled score)
- 41–50 NWPM: 60% · 51–60: 70% · 61–70: 80% · 71–80: 90% · 81+: 100%
Tips
- Capitals and punctuation must match — a wrong case makes the whole word incorrect
- Correct mistakes with Backspace; a corrected word counts as correct
- Practise full 15-minute runs, aiming for 35+ NWPM for a safety margin
